So one of the things I want to do here is talk about our foster care experience. It’s something I’ve wanted to do since college, and thankfully, my husband is on board. I never was the girl that couldn’t wait to have babies, but I’ve always wanted kids. When I found out there was a way that didn’t invovle the pregnancy thing, I thought it sounded perfect. That’s what started me thinking Foster Care. What’s actually pulling me in are two things.
1) James 1:27
Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.
2) I love kids and there are so many that don’t have a home. After working with them for 10 years solid (really it’s been more than that) I know how their environment affects them. I know that not all of them have the best situation. The lucky ones have family that will take them in. And I know this is the path God is leading me down.
I know plenty of people that have adopted. And if we go awhile in foster care without adoption being an option, we might look into it, but I think Foster Care is the joy before us for the moment.
p.s. If you haven’t seen instant family yet, you need to. Not only is it just a great movie in general, but it’s a fantastic movie about foster care.
