This week is a pick your own Top Ten, so I decided to share 10 of my favorite easy reads. So if you want a quick read check below.
The Great Good Thing by Roderick Townley
This is a recent read. I knocked it out in about 6 hours and it was a great story packed in to such a small page.
The Voyage of the Basset by James C. Christensen
My parents took me and my sister to see the author when we were kids. A large part was because my sister is big into art and James Christensen does beautiful illustrations through the whole book. My sister got a signed copy then, and I talked about it so much in college that a friend bought be my own copy for Christmas.
The Willoughbys by Lowis Lowry
This one took only a couple hours but somehow felt like a bigger story. Totally worth a read.
The City of Ember
If you’ve seen the movie, you should still read the book. It’s different enough that you can still enjoy the book. I’ve only read the second book, but hopefully will read the third one soon.
The Enchanted Forest series
Book 1 | Book 2 | Book 3 | Book 4
I think this might be the series that hooked me on fantasy. This whole series will only take you a couple days to make it through, but it has such great characters that you will want to reread it. It’s not your typical fantasy, more like a backwards fantasy, if that’s really a genre.
Any Nancy Drew Books by Carolyn Keene
I loved Nancy! I’ve read so many of the stories, and want to try to read the rest of them, of which there are 56. I’ve probably read 20 or so of them, so maybe a reading challenge lies there.
Pride and Prejudice Manga edition
I recently read this book and immediately added all the other Manga classics to my TBR list. Currently I’m working through Scarlet Letter. These are just a fun way to revisit a classic.
Howls Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones
I got this book for .99 and decided to give it a spin. I wasn’t sure if I’d like it because of the movie that came out way back when. But I was more than pleasantly surprised by this one and quickly made it through and added it to my favorites list.
The Spiderwick Chronicles by Holly Black
This is such a quick read, maybe a couple hours will get you through the whole series. And even though the movie kept pretty true to the books, there’s always that little bit that the movie can’t capture and makes the book worth reading.
Black and Blue Magic by Zilpha Keatley Snyder
I read this when I was a kid, and actually it was my mom’s when she was a kid. I don’t remember much about it, but I know I’ve reread it a couple times over the years and now pulling it back out I’m putting it on my reread list again.
